I have had an ongoing problem with British Gas since last July ( see this thread for Long version of problem.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=294391

Short version - BG and MPAS now think we only have one meter which has small amount of usage. Should I let them carry on thinking this and therefore have small bills or should I tell truth( which I have been doing since last July).

Obviously I should try telling them but they never seem to listen.

What would you do ?

so are there two separate meters (supplying different things) in the property?

I thought from the other thread that a meter was exchanged. Or have they exchanged a meter but mpas and BG think the meter was just removed.

I would be honest and admit that there is a second meter if there is.

If they then have to come around and find that yes, there is really a meter there, they will probably only start billing again from that point (not for the units used in between) on that meter.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

They exchanged one of the meters and now BG and MPAS think there is only one, although why they think this I'm not sure. I have told the truth all along and given meter details and readings. Even told the last person at BG when he said that 'fuse had been taken out of meter' that it was still there/working.

It would have solved a lot of problems if they had sent someone round to check when I first reported problem. Guess I'll have to try talking to them again. As it happens I don't think they even have this last bill for one meter correct i.e wrong tariff.

If MPAS have the meter listed as de-energised, BG need to create an account and start billing.

If MPAS have it down as disconnected, you will need a new MPAN which MPAS need to supply you with.

    Thanks Tripled

The word BG used was de-energised. I'm not sure how they and ONSTREAM and MPAS have got themselves into this situation. At one point they had 2 meters listed against one MPAN.

I feel I should write and tell BG as they obviously have not taken any real notice of my phone calls over the last 11 months ( they seem to at the time and then nothing happens or the wrong thing happens).

Which is the best address to write to ? Would it be the complaints address on back of bill or is it worth speaking to Energywatch again first?

After the initial creation of the MPAN, MPAS usually get their info from the suppliers, so the fault would seem to lie squarely at BG's door. Have you tried just switching suppliers? It may not work, but it's worth a go.

I had been planning to switch suppliers as soon as the correct bills were received/settled.

Now BG have in their opinion 'de-energised' meter it has further complicated matters. I was tempted to just pay latest bill and switch suppliers and so new company would know nothing about new meter, but not really comfortable with that idea( e.g knowingly not disclosing other meter).

However I'm not sure if it complicates things further if I switch and try and tell the new company about the other meter.

Have left a message for BG to call me. If thay haven't in a few days will check with Energywatch how best to proceed.
