Today I think I have done well to be frugal, I still hadn't used my £20 gift card that my brother gave me for my local shopping centre, anyhow checked I could use it in B*ots which I could, so bought some much needed feminine products that were half price (and which my brother obviously would never dream to buy me for a gift) Some shower gels, which my son's can use too (did consider going all girly just for myself but am skint) some pure indulgence for me with a Cuddle-up Hot Chocolate set and a Laura Ashley 2 drawer storage box, to help me organize my incoming mail. I did need to get some cash out of bank as son needs to call to his nanna's so got £5 out of bank and bought two meat and potato pies for my lads for £1 so then I had change for my son to go to his nanna's and back.

..so this is the rewards we are seeing of more efficent boiler

This is exactly what I needed to hear, thank you! :A

Our boiler (and rads) are old and inefficient where we now live and it's scarey the amount of oil we get through (we aren't on mains gas where we are). I was planning to get the boiler and rads sorted when we got some building work done but we decided to save for the heating to be sorted before saving for the building work - and this is exactly the reassurance I needed to tell me we're doing this the right way round :)

  • Hi all, wow this thread is moving fast! Due to my 2 year old not sleeping much this week, I haven't really had a chance to catch up but if it's not been posted already, the super 6 are on until the 15th January this time and they are; cucumber, sprouts, spring onions, celery, 4 pack garlic and savoy cabbage. Not sure if this helps anyone or if it's already been mentioned but I bought the celery, spring onions and garlic for soups. Oh, and they're 39p not 69p as they normally are (by us anyway!) Hope you are all having a productive 2014 :)

Sorry, haven't managed to catch up on all the posts since Saturday evening and I need to get back to my work (:() but from here we had a semi-frugal weekend and today's not going badly either

Saturday we did the £1 cinema and took our own juice and treats. Then we popped to the local soft play place for free (we have memebership) but spent a little bit more than a tenner as we had more tea/coffee than we planned. wethen went quickly to the local f&v market and got some f&v but also stocked up mega-stylie on spices, lentils and I also got some dried chickpeas to try out falafels yesterday.
Sunday was spent indoors cooking, taking down the tree decs, hoovering...
Today I brought my breakfast and lunch into work and Mr Shortie took the kids back to the softplay place for a last day of burning up energy before going back to school tomorrow

We have been buying newspapers this weekend that we don't normally do - one for the sun holiday tokens, and the other for the slimming world mags. I have the slimming world books somewhere but have been getting these in for some inspiration / a kick-startto eating healthy again

I'm reading lots about decluttering too. I hate our clutter but I half do a job and it all creeps back to a mess again soon after. I really do need to crack on and just chuck stuff, not keeping it 'just incase'

Oh, and I treated myself to some wool on Saturday too so that i can carry on with my crochet blanket. I really need to try and find a cheap source of wool though as I'm thinking of making some bits for people for Christmas but the wool alone can be quite expensive!

  • Shortie, there is a shop by us called UK Discount that sells wool for £1 for a 100g ball, not sure if this is more expensive than what you are currently paying but it's where I go for mine as it's the cheapest round by us and the quality is quite good too. The poundland by us has also started selling wool, but it is only 50g balls. They do a 3 for 2 offer so it works out 150g for £2. Hope this helps x

Shortie, I find shaws quite good for wool too, you can get a 500g ball for around £6-8. The other thing is to look in charity shops as people are always getting rid of wool. If you are a member of ravelry (knitting site) there are random acts of kindness forums, where if you are short of wool you can ask and maybe someone will send you some. Good luck with the blanket!

    afternoon folks

Been reasonably sensible and am only buying what I really need. Spent £29 approx in mr ts at the weekend and got a few whoopsied items. Spent nothing yesterday but had to pop out today, to buy some wood logs, lemsips paracetamol as all my lot not feeling very well. £9 appox.

One cannot swallow tablets as she would actually choke and she is now 20 years old. All have exams this week too. So great fun in our house.

Need to clean my fridge out and sort what has to be used up sooner rather than later. Hope to get this done tonight.

Definitely being more aware of need over want so that is progress.

Need to buy a new sky remote as we have a spare box and I am giving it to a relative so that is the only major expenditure this week.

    All the best :)

Have spent all day catching up on this marvellous, inspirational thread. You guys are doing wonders!

It took me so long, because I kept being inspired to do things I needed to at home, that matched what I was reading. So far, I have cooked and frozen a lasagne, chicken soup and fruit crumble and decluttered the top of the fish tank, lol!
