I switch between Clare Barry (the green offers are great) and Meatpacks dependant on what I fancy / need and any offers. The delivery for Meatpack is more yet even with that added on it is STILL cheaper than my local butcher and the supermarket.

Thanks, off to investigate them both now

I posted a pic of an order from Meatpacks further up, hope that helps.

  • After the talk of onesie's I decided to wear mine. Just walked in the living room and DOH told me to get out or else he's going to burn it. I think I look lovely in it, but obviously not!!! he does make me laugh. he wouldn't even look at me until I took it off!
  • Ginnyknit, I hope you are better now. I also spent a couple of days ill i bed so I have spent nothing. I have dreamed up plans for my veg plot though and found a supplier of 'interesting' seeds.
    Seriously money saving
  • Well, my spreadsheet is done and budget is set. It wasn't straightforward because my hubby is self-employed and so we have the agreement that each of us pay half towards the bills, I pay it all at the start of the month and he pays me back throughout the month. So I have halved the bills we both pay and then worked it all out from there. It has taken me a long time today and so haven't got the freezer inventory done that I had planned, but there's always tomorrow!
I have set up different bank accounts to keep 'pots' of money allocated for various reasons so hopefully I will be able to keep a better track of what I'm spending. Fingers crossed!

    Hello :)

I often sign up to this thread and then fall by the wayside pretty quickly.

I'm going to be lurking more than posting this year I think, but I need the inspiration because my hours are reducing from 35 to 28, and I'm only on a short-term contract too

Thanks to the poster who linked the freezer inventory document, that's going to be a job for this week. Good luck for 2014 everyone

    Interesting about the online butchers.

I had a largish chest freezer, which was often fairly empty. It served me faithfully for 28 years, but then one of the door hinges sheared off, so I decided it was time to get a new one, this was about 4 years ago.

I bought a smaller freezer, and almost immediately regretted it. It wasn't really big enough for my normal needs, and is certainly not big enough for my new frugal needs! I'd never be able to stuff 6 kg of meat in there:rotfl:

At some point the garage will be de-cluttered. When that's done we'll have more room, so I think I'll have to consider getting another freezer to work alongside our current small one.

  • Hi Shortie - sorry to hear your worrying news. I was made redundant 2 years ago and knew for 9 months so had time to plan but it was still difficult. I was able to get a job quickly but it was on a lower salary in a different field so near the bottom of the heap. :( however saving and not spending kept me sane. Why I didn't continue who knows.....I should have seen the light but I didn't till now.

I want to not spend anything on clothes in 2014 and only spend on bills and some home repairs. We have a shower that needs to be working again in case we want to sell the house so that is at the top of our ' to do' list.

I need to work on my budget and set specific goals, will be back.

I had wine and did some sums.

    Not great.
well for one thing the wine has worn off.

One CC 0% runs out in July and the other in Oct.

Ideally I want to pay them both off whilst I am working. i.e July. I will probably get a new job for September but.............

that means paying off 1250 each month.

Frugal isn't the word! In fact I am very much doubt it is possible.

Will have to re think the car and the money I think.

I actually came on here to say thanks to the person who posted the freezer link, that website is brilliant!
    Nevertheless she persisted.

    hi everyone.

does anyone know when the sun holidays are back ?

im really excited to start the challenge. ive planned a tight budget this year just hope its possible. and we/i can prove to ourselves that we can live on a tiny budget and save rather than spend. i want and need to get out of debt (again) and would love to start saving for a wedding :)

im not including rent/mortgage payments or council tax in my budget but everything else is included
my budget is £180 p/wk for a family of 4 (including the baby)

i have my spreadsheet done. and a word doc with my own little diary etc to keep me motivated. im really hoping this thread will help us change our ways with money as a family im scared but looking forward to it and can't wait too here all of your amazing tips along the way ....

do many of you use FB ... only i was wondering only if others wanted .... would it be worth setting up a FLC mse fb page ... just for us lot a closed group (that way the only ppl that can see posts etc are the ppl in the group. id happily help run the page. just thought it was a way of everyone sharing their tips etc a little easier and obv keeping everyone updated with everyones progress) the reason i suggest this is because im not sure if others are the same but fb is alot easier for me to access than mse .... and easier for me to update etc ... im not trying to pull people away from the thread far from it hopefully it may remind ppl to update and post more often.... sorry if its abit of a mad idea .... i would set the settings so that only admin could approve ppl to join and also ask that ppl message me on here with there initials if they didnt want to give there name so i know im only joining ppl from this group .... its just i feel everyone has so much to offer so if its easier for some it could be worth setting up a fb page alongside this thread... what does everyone think ... sorry if its a silly idea
