I tried my hand at making flour tortillas last night - I purposely made far too much dough expecting to watse a good amount not cooking them right. I cracked it fairly quickly so we have a massive excess of wraps that I might try and turn into oven baked tortilla chips tonight

They were lovely for dinner as wraps and I've just had one for lunch which kept well. Definately making them again - they're so much cheaper than Mr T's, and it means we can have them 'on tap' providing I have the flour in. When I've 100% cracked these, I can start looking at flavouring them up too :D

I'd love the recipe please, would be very handy for lunches when we run out of bread!

Did you do your degree through open university? Ive been looking into this recently, but it seemed a bit impossible without quitting my job or them being flexible in work (which they wouldnt!) also financing was an issue, student loans etc.

I'm currently doing a degree with the open university! I'm not working but plenty of people doing the same module are. They suggest 8-10 hours for a 30 credit module, 120 credits in each level. 3 levels. I'm only doing 30 credits at the moment, a 60 credit in Oct and then picking up 30 credits in Feb, so going to need to find 24 hours to study from Feb! If you have any questions feel free to message me!

    Morning :j
Been busy for a few days, including preparing to go away this weekend to an event which involves camping. But OH now has a bad cold, and given the weather forecast  we have decided that sleeping in a puddle would not help :rotfl:so we have given our apologies and will try to go tomorrow if he is feeling a bit better, and probably just for the day. It is an outside event, so hopefully that will avoid spreading germs :o

Anyway, yesterday I cooked a chicken and made a spinach pie to take with us, so not much cooking is needed for a few days! I do need to do a bit of shopping though, so will head off to Lidls in a bit.
  • Not been on here for ages. I can't seem to get into the frugal mindset this year at all. I have just spent a good chunk of our savings on getting the bathroom done up. It did badly need done as the last time it was done as about 14 years ago.

I had planned to pop into Edinburgh today and have a free day going to the Botanic gardens and then to Art galleries/Museum. But the weather isn't great so I am going to stay home and potter around the house - get bedding changed, washing done etc. Also going to spend some time going through finances.

I have been having a lot of issues with my sinuses over the last few months so I have decided to try going dairy free for a few weeks to see if it makes a difference. I started yesterday afternoon and this morning is the first morning this week I have woken up without a headache. So far so good. However, having the rice milk in my cereal will take a bit of getting used to.

Hi Allie. I don't post on here as often as I have in the past couple of years but I still like to read the posts and see how well everyone is doing.
Have you tried almond milk rather than the rice milk. I find it a much nicer taste either the unsweetened or sweetened one.
Someone at work has trouble with her sinuses and often they're so painful she's off work, so I can sympathise.

  • Hi Dizzy Lizzie, I bought some Almond milk too and it is much creamier than the rice milk, tried it this morning in my tea. I will try a few - I think there is soya milk too and see which one I prefer.

I got lots done yesterday - bedding changed, washing up to date, finances looked at and food plan made out for the next month. Only problem, O forgot to take Chicken out of the freezer for today's meal. Oh well we can have that tomorrow.

I use soya milk. I find the Alpr0 far too sweet (even the unsweetened one), and the fresh ones don't seem to last long enough for me to even use half the container. I'm on Mr T's organic unsweetened long-life one and quite happy with that - though you can't add it to hot coffee without it curdling (seems OK if you put the milk into the mug first then add the hot water slowly). They do a cheaper long-life one (and A1di do one too), but for now I'm happy to pay the extra for organic :)

I'm having to play catch up :o

I absolutely love this thread and the inspiration that it gives me but I have fallen behind in reading it.

I have 7 pages to catch up on

    Wish me luck :rotfl:

Well, it seems to have stopped pouring down with rain here, for now anyway. OH still like a bear with a sore head with his cold (where is that roll eyes smiley that we used to have on here?) so we didn't go out today as planned. I didn't get much sleep, so a lazy day really.

I have cleaned the bathroom, done a load of washing, put new anti moth thingies in the wardrobe, drawers and linen chests, and done a little bit of work for my business, but not much else :o

But I did make a lemon drizzle cake to use up a couple of shrivelled lemons last night :)

    And I can claim a NSD :T

We still have the chicken I roasted to take away with us, so will have some of that tonight.

If I could find the motivation, I suppose I could tackle to i*oning

Hiya, this is the recipe I've been using so far and it turns out quite well:

    http://allrecipes.co.uk/m/recipe/1864/flour-tortilla-wraps.aspx

Two things to note though: it makes a lot and you can free the pre-rolled balls of dough. Also, cook them on med/high for about 30-45 secs each side if rolled quite thin otherwise they dry out and are like cardboard.

I was nosing on you tube the other day and they recipes I saw used there all used oil instead of butter so I might give one of those recipes a whirl next and see if it makes a difference
