One of the best money saving mantras for me has been 'repair, reuse, recycle'. I always try to think of alternatives before shelling out my hard earned cash. My Dyson DC01 (15 years old) had various 'issues' but was mechanically sound. I advertised on freecycle for an unwanted broken one and then repaired mine with parts from that. (Ok my brother who's also a money saving maniac money did it actually). This saved me a lot of money buying new. Freecycle is brilliant for finding and donating all sorts of things.
  • I am soooo glad I joined this challenge for 2014, as now we have got a ANOTHER potential large amount of money to find for an urgent matter on our land....

So I am looking at what I have got in my freezer and cupboards that I bought for Christmas, and seeing if I can 'do without that on the day' I bought fresh pork sage and onion stuffing reduced for 25p and its in the freezer, so rather than use that tomorrow, I am going to use the basic value stuffing I have in the cupboard... I want to use the morrisons pork stuffing for a future meal... any suggestions on what I can make with it, to make it the main thing on the plate? all I can think of at the moment is patties/burgers

Well, went out shopping only to get washing powder and got there bang on time for the last reductions.... I had 2 trays of minced Lamb for 55p each Aload of Salmon reduced from £4 down to 48p each a load of line caught cod fillets reduced from £2.98 to 21p.. and a funky fusk kitchen 2 hadock fishcakes from £2.50 to 12p plus a huge chocolate specialty cake from 310 down to £1,89.. and then I bought a large pot of cream for 44p to scoff with the cake...lol....

The thing is my freezer in the house is more or less full, with reduced stuff..lol.. so will have to do a bit of jiggling around in there...

We are not big fish eaters... but at that price.. we will eat some, and so will the cats...

I also downgraded my annual bottle of Asti Spumate for a bottle of babysham... so that saved me £3..

so my Super Frugal year has just started

  • Plan to follow this thread with interest and join you lovely lot.

Have no debts but not left with much spare cash each month either. Really need to cut the grocery spend as last month we spent 650 on food for four adults and that is with starting to use Lidl, a local discount food shop and cooking a lot from scratch so am going wrong somewhere.

Don't have a tumble drier so cant use that.

Have an allotment so need to make more use of that.

Would love to go to Italy for our first holiday abroad in 10 years so that is my aim, to cut back enough to build some savings up.

Do swagbucks, dooyoo , inbox pounds and gifthulk so any amazon vouchers are being used to buy things like loo rolls, kitchen rolls etc to try to cut the grocery spend further.

I blame my 6ft 4 rugby playing husband who eats like a bottomless pit for our huge spend but savings can surely be made somewhere.
    Make £10 a Day Feb .....£75.... March... £65......April...£90.....May £20.....June £35.......July £60

  • I have been trying to find the time to work out my budgets etc for next year, but I dont seem to have 2 minutes, let alone the the proper time to sit down with pen, paper an calculator to work out a budget, BUT I am toying with the idea.. of only trying to spend £5 a day on shopping ( I pass 3 supermarkets on the way home from work, which is only 4 miles away, and one of the mr A is literly just outside my front door), With a safety net of another £20 in the 'shopping purse' just incase there are any bargains, whoopsies, mega offers ..

I am going to TRY and get this to cover everything, catfood, laundry etc..Sounds hard... But it will be all about juggling what to buy on the day...

BUT if I do see a mega deal, them it would be silly not to blow this and bulk buy...( might be worth me working out/putting aside a budget for bulk buys)

I have started buying the sugar in Farmfoods at 2 for £1.50

Is that £5 for yourself and a cat?

  • I'm happy today! I made enough in eBay sales to buy myself a nice new mixer, not quite the Kenwood Chef recommended by frugalsod, but the Andrew James equivalent with a meat grinder and sausage maker. I think I will have had to put £15 toward when I work out postage for the items I sold. And then to top it off we got a turkey for £11.52 at T*sco!

    Have a great Christmas everyone!
