the meat is FAB... and will NEVER go back to buying pork in the supermarkets etc..
That's one thing I will not compromise on is meat, as if you got a good piece of quality meat, then you are going to have a good meal
We have adult 2 sows and a boar, so fingers crossed we will have our own piglets in the summer...Work to live= not live to work0 -
I have always been happy to reheat any leftover cold meat if it is done promptly, has been stored properly in the interim, and is served piping hot. I have never heard of this 'rule' and I am older than you - do you think it might be something that goes back to the days before most households had fridges?
I sometimes make a sweet and sour with left over pork. But cold pork is very nice too, isn't it? Or sometimes I freeze the remains of a joint, and defrost it at a later date for use in a cooked dish.
Do you sell your home grown pork, as there seems to be a lot of it? We used to have our own home grown meat, but it would only be a couple of lambs a year and a dozen chickens, odd ducks and rabbits etc, but your set up seems a lot bigger, and you must have a large amount of pork for one family?
I love the idea of eating 'odd ducks' :rotfl:"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
Just Done myself an Approved food shop, not done one in a couple of years, and was pleased to see the delivery charges have reduced greatly since then. Total shop £72.23 of which only £1.25 was for my delivery due to the delivery discount items they now have.2026 Goals

Challenging the family this week to live off the £20 in dh's wallet!
I want to see how far through the week we can get.
Went to lidl for a few bits earlier, weve got plenty of milk and a breadmaker so we should do fairly well!Still here..... but working on that!0 -
I am not sure what the limit is but canned and dried goods can last well past their best before. If not why would a company like Approvedfoods exist? A general rule that I use is to use any dented cans first, then cans that are showing the first signs of rust. After that I try and use things in date order even if they are all out of date.LionessInWinter wrote: »Is there a table that shows how long food can last past their best before dates and even their use by dates? We adhere to the dairy dates pretty strictly but we're a little flexible on canned and dried goods but would love to know what others use as a guideline.
Thanks
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.0 -
Did my grocery order today - next one will be in two weeks (or more), so the theory is that I'll wait until my order is over £100 and then be able to take advantage of free delivery. Also, it'll stop any clicking on things that I don't need, although I am generally quite good, it'll still take away any temptation
Around November time, Dobbies were doing 20% off wild bird foods.so we got our winter supply in, as we like to feed the birds. It gives us a lot of pleasure to watch the comings and goings of our feathered friends, and today we had a bit of excitement - a pair of jays were eating nuts on the bird table. We'd never seen them before - we had to look them up to see what they were. We live in a typical area of housing, but we have some woodland nearby, so we do get various birds in the garden. It's one of those simple pleasure thingsEarly retired - 18th December 2014

Loving the birds Goldie! I always love to see the robin that comes to my garden a couple of times a day. Am convinced it's the same one every time!!
How's everyone doing? Hope it's been a lovely weekend. Lazy old day for me, finally a no spend yeeha! My target (gulp!) is that tmw, Tues and Weds are no spends either and then Thurs I only have my travel costs for uni. And then it's pay day on Friday!
Made some, er...interesting (!) concoction for tea from a recipe I found in Saturday's paper. All ingredients were in, including dried split peas, spices, bulgar wheat...plus, I found some frozen coriander and frozen ginger in Arseda a few weeks ago for 25p so used them too. Was quite nice! Some leftover for dinner tomorrow and also a small portion which I bunged into the food processor with a tin of chickpeas, a dollop of peanut butter and extra lemon and olive oil. Bit of a different hummus that will keep me going snack-wise for a bit next week.
I'm a firm convert to the 'lazy' ginger and chilli you can buy in jars, they seem to last me a long time and I can pick them up in Aldini and Homely Bargainous pretty cheap. I enjoy cooking although I'm no Masterchef - and I certainly can't taste any difference between jarred and fresh!!2014 Frugal Living Challenge

We are on target for our £100 food budget this month.
Happy sunday everyone

The weekend has been a lazy indoors one. Well except for shopping at Mr Ts. Spent £17.34. I've done a meal plan for the next two weeks. I just need to buy Chinese bits for Friday, need to see who has the best deals around.
