So I did too many searches this month because I was looking around for a new CC. How much do they dock my score realistically? I didn't realise what they would do and I am looking to get a PCP car loan in the next 3 - 4 months. Have I ruined my chances?
Also - I just realised that Experian (grr) put a default that I disputed before on my account. Can I ask them to take if off the account while I dispute with the parent company (it was unequivocally not a default - I had cancelled my contract)? Or would they not do that? I remember last time I argued with them it took ages.
Otherwise, I have no debt, carry a small balance on a 0% card (will be paid off this month) and have one month where I missed a payment in 2011 (grr. It was an accident - was switching current accounts...paid two weeks late...)
And final credit report question, I can't be on the electoral register (not eligible) AND recently moved, so basically that ALSO docks my credit worthiness. I put a note on my account saying honestly, I'm a real person that's resident in the UK (pretty much). Hopefully that helps...was wondering if anyone had any experience with that?
Advice? Help?

To be honest you are going to struggle to get decent credit. In fact, you should be congratulated as you've hit just about every marker a person needs to avoid.
Recently moved
Not on Electoral Register
A default
Recent late payments
Many searchs.
Experian will not remove the default until the company you are in dipsute with tells them to, so you need to get onto them asap.
I'd start saving for a car.0 -

I'd start saving for a car.
As in, that default didn't happen - a company continued billing me after a contract was cancelled/after I had moved (I have the cancellation papers). It will be taken off before I even think about applying for anything.
My Experian report doesn't have any late payments (my Equifax one does - as that company has a deal with them where they report it even if it's one day late...the company themselves said it was their fault as that they requested the direct debit from the wrong bank account and that they were notified in due time)...so one late payment in 2011.
I can't help not being on the electoral register. I don't have a UK/EU passport. Same with I couldn't help moving.
Other than the car bit (which I can afford to pay outright if need be), I have two credit cards which I pay off the balance every month. I really don't do anything dodge ...which is why I want to be sort out my credit report that it reflects the reality of having a good salary, making payments on time, not doing any weird.0 -
Lenders (and therefore credit scoring) tend to focus on recent credit application searches, typically the last 3-6 months. So if you plan an important application it's best to avoid making other applications in the run up, if you can. But credit ratings always look at a wide selection of data and if other information supports your creditworthiness then you might be ok. Hopefully the default will be gone before you apply for the car loan. Do let us know if you'd like us to dispute it for you.

So get the unfair default removed - that will take some time and you still have the big issues of the late payment & not being on the Electoral register. I appreciate that is not your fault, but it is likely to impede your quest for credit. If you can afford to buy a car outright, then do that. Any lender is going to be very wary of a borrower without a UK/EU passport who is not on the register and has moved home recently.0
