... manages to shower and deal with toilet needs himself, just (but is having more and more accidents at home just because he can't get upstairs quickly enough) but is too proud/stubborn to mention this to the Dr ...
This doesn't seem quite right to me - even if it takes him five or ten minutes to get upstairs, surely in normal circumstances that wouldn't be too long to hold on? I think he should be talking to the doctor in case there is another issue.
Longer term, is there any option to look to have a bathroom downstairs, or move to a more suitable house? It sounds as if you are both struggling too much.0 -
Many thanks for all your advice.
I've applied to join the fb carers group Juliethemuse, thanks for that.
Moving isn't an option at the moment, two teenage boys at college and we're right on a bus route. Besides, the house needs a lot doing to it, including repair of the downstairs loo, which I broke, thinking the macerator woukd cope with chunks of bone in dog poo.., it's been out of commission for about 3 years now.
The pain relief thing is complicated by the fact that hes had several DVTs in the past, so he's on Warfarin. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
I agree with the posters above.
Can I suggest prioritising using some of your OH's DLA to fix the loo. That would benefit both of you, both in the physical sense of him having time to get there and you not having to clear up after him and in terms of his independence and self esteem.. . .I did not speak out
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me..
