Benefit entitlement during a gap in employment

Hi,

I've been in a temporary position since mid October and it is due to end after Friday, however they have asked me to come back and work for them for three weeks starting 6th January. Since the employment isn't officially ending and is just having a three week break what benefits will I be entitled to in this period?

Hope this was clear

Thanks!

I cant see that you will be entitled to any thing as you are still employed maybe Holiday pay or retainer from your employer

You can sign on for JSA, but you will have to prove you are actively seeking work.
I am assuming that they won't be paying you during the three week break.

Hey.. No won't be receiving any pay as it's only agency work. Thanks.

Definitely sign on for JSA and look for work during the break.
  • You need to be careful the way you broach that subject. If it's agency work and you did some last week, not this week and then next week, you would expect to be able to claim between jobs the same as anybody could. Because you would be between (temp) jobs.

But the way you phrased your question it could come across as you are employed but not working over xmas and then you're back. That makes it sound like a xmas shutdown as opposed to unemployment. If you make it sound that way at the job centre they may well tell you that you can't get any JSA.

If it is entirely separate periods of temporary work then you need to make that clear.

This is one of those situations where one gets the right answer but the question was wrong, if you see what I mean.:)

Could you not just do some other agency work for the three weeks?
