    Thanks to all for your help. I am going to phone Aviva when I get home (left the letter at home!) and see if they'll do what you suggest kingstreet.

    I will also go and see a broker for further options.

    Products specifically tailored for a bank often have limited flexibility on underwriting.

    They can be a one size fits all approach - take on the masses where there's no risk and pocket the profit. As you've discovered, we're all different!

    Not to mention, insurers operate dual pricing, so the same product from a bank or building society can have higher premiums in the first place, to meet the higher commission payments to the introducer.

    If you are "loaded" with an increased premium, it's a bigger loading as the initial premium is higher.

    If you seek out Independent Financial Advice, you'll get the best chance of cover, at the best price.
