HL Master portfolios

Options
What are people's views on these for people like myself who are embarking with virtually no knowledge in the world of investments but keen to use ISA allowance before the end of the financial year?

Personally I prefer the Bestinvest equivalent portfolios as they are more diversified - if I recall correctly the HL portfolios just have ~5 funds in them. Both routes are relatively expensive though. You should consider passive multi asset options too maybe HSBC World Index or Vanguard.

You have still got 3 months in the FY. Use at least some of that to read up some basics about investment. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4752194

If you opt for the HL portfolios, you have discarded a passive investment approach and need skills to manage and rebalance your portfolio.

Why not enter the HL portfolios into a portfolio tool such as Trustnet or Morningstar? Try a purchase date and amount for each and then look at how they perform against your chosen index or other comparator, perhaps against one of the passives such as a Vanguard Life Strategy 80% fund. You can then review various performance periods although if using a LS fund you can only go back a short period of time. Just a thought.

If you're planning on going the S&S ISA route have a look at this handy website which compares the fund platforms and associated costs: http://www.comparefundplatforms.com/
