  • To be honest I can't remember I'm gonna have a look through my paperwork later (which there's quite a bit of). I remember not arguing the point becz I hadn't used the car that much and was thinking of cancelling anyway. And obviously the fact that the car was crushed 3 days after the accident didn't persuade me to keep the cover for a large square of steel

I can't answer why or how they insure 20 year olds on temp or not, on tpo or full. I was sold on a full policy by admiral because they didn't want to keep selling me temp insurance just when I needed it. They wanted me to be on the books properly so made it happen. I went from paying £25 for a week insurance every other week almost, to paying £90 odd a month and a deposit. It doesn't take a genius to work out why they wanted to give me a full policy. I was a trusted driver in their eyes I had 1 year no claims earned with them in the previous year, no payment problems etc and had been no problem on the temp cover.

Admiral have never offered standalone temporary cover. We're you adding your friends car as a temporary second car to a policy you already held? That would make sense as its charged at about £25 a week. They also only intend it to be used for a few weeks, hence them asking you to stop doing it.

Helpfully this is from 2 years ago.

Why did you decide on a separate policy rather than being added to your friend's policy though?

  • I didn't even think about my friends policy because I always thought that u can only be joint if your immediate family or spouse. All I did to get the temp cover was ring them, I said I'm an old customer of yours, my old policy number is this, can you give me some temp cover on my friends car - yes we can, give us the details - voila cover started! Then they signed me up for full cover, didn't ask me about my friends cover to my memory.

One poster is the mother, the other is the daughter/insured.

You can kinda tell by the use of "she" and "my daughter" by one and "I" and "me" by the other. ;)

Im sure I read the mother say I too

    EDIT: You are right

There's no way that can be right I'm afraid. Their computer system wouldn't allow it, for a start.

In the very first reply to your Mum's OP this question was asked (about the cancellation), and has been repeatedly asked throughout this (now) long thread.

You do need to dig out all the paperwork you have (policy docs and correspondence) and go through what it says (if not to answer the questions asked here, but to discuss with a solicitor - you will find a local solicitor who offers the first interview FOC)

As we keep telling you, this whole episode will have lifelong consequences for you unless you are able to overturn it (as you seem to feel you will, but cannot give the answers to the most relative points - what does the policy say about who is the owner, and what was the reason for the cancellation)
  • This is what I'm saying, I can't answer why they did it, I just went along with what they said and offered.
  • There's no way that can be right I'm afraid. Their computer system wouldn't allow it, for a start.

Agree. Something is missing from the story.

As for them chasing the OPs daughter. Thats correct. Thats where the contract exists. RebekahL can then sue the friend for the cash.
  • After knowing that she was not the owner or the legal keeper but they insured her without any question. The cancellation occurred only for Police and legal actions. After reviewing the whole story I found that her friend was the only person who could be beneficial through the policy (if it was not cancelled). But now there is no need to think on it.
