Hello , just was wondering if anyone has tried any of the above jobs ? Is there any initial start up costs , if so what sort of prices. Did it work for you ? Any views experiences are much appreciated .

Many thanks

They are not jobs - a job implies that you are employed by someone and wouldn't require you to pay out money up front.

You will be self-employed and likely end up wandering the streets for less than NMW.

I have actually done Avon and Betterware. If you mean leaving catalogues, knocking on doors, fulfilling orders and taking payment then I did not encounter any start up costs.

HOWEVER, bear in mind that it is a slog for very little money. With Bettaware, you had to individually bag up all the catalogues, order forms and other items in a rain proof plastic wallet. Then decide which area to hit. In my case it was worse as I did it all on foot!

You really needs a car or van to even begin to make it worthwhile. Even then, you may struggle to cover your petrol / diesel costs. Especially with Bettaware as I only earned 20 pence in the pound at the time. Could be different now of course.

I think you need to contact a coodinator who supplies you with the material.

The ones to be is a coordinator they earn a percentage on any orders you get for doing little or nothing, if you want pin money then go for it, if you want more then I wouldn't bother.
  • Don't believe the statement on the JobMatch, that 'The Company has given an assurance that this vacancy enables workers to achieve a wage equivalent to the National Minimum Wage rate'. Only the coordinator has a chance of doing that.
  • Not worth the hassle.

Soggy books returned to you if you're lucky, even when you deliver them in bags. Other books binned.
People changing their minds and sending stuff back.
People not having the money ready when you come to deliver the products, even though you've emailed/texted, and given them a sheet with the information on it.
Rude people telling you off for leaving a book at their house
Loads of time spent sorting through the boxes of goods that arrive from Avon (or whoever), then bagging the stuff up, labelling it with addresses, and how much they owe. Then notifying customers that you will be coming. Though expect that some of them might not be in when you come.
Avon sending you the box of products all thrown in with no protection so items get broken.
Avon messing up the order by sending you things you didn't order, or leaving things out of the order
    Not earning much money.

A friends daughter has started Avon and been told they are only allowed 2 roads for their customers. Not sure if that is just because of the area or a common things.
  • Did Betterware a few years ago when we had a car and it did provide a little top up pin money but not a real income. The benefit was that there was no initial start up cost for stock/brochures etc unlike some others. Got us fit with pounding the streets delivering books though.
You have to stay very organised with deliveries/money etc and will need somewhere to store the items.

Avon can work very well, my niece does Avon but has a captive audience as she works in a building with 900 staff and most of them are female.

    .

a lot get a little !!!!ed off with all the books, bags etc that get left and then they expect you to leave it outside on a certain day and if it's not there they come knocking on the door asking for it, we didn't ask to be part of their business so they shouldn't expect us to play along.

I don't want to have to remember to have to put a crapping booklet out before I go to bed or by a certain time in the evening.

I agree though no need to be rude but it's not surprising some people are.
  • Yeah I do Avon on the side. Its not a job, you're self employed, some people can turn a profit and some don't. I do, because I have a large family who already bought Avon.

Start up costs, I can't remember I think it was about £15 plus you have to buy the books and a few other things.
