Hi,
I have £1 coin meters in my flat, which is set at a unit rate of 5.6. This works out at 17.86p per unit.
I was just wondering whether this is a normal rate, or whether I should look into asking my landlord to see his bills. I don't want to kick up a fuss unless there really is an issue, so I'm wondering if anyone on here can help me first.
Thanks!

if it's electric then tbh that is not too bad, I pay 12.9 plus a .26p a day standing charge with Britiah Gas and they are fairly good price wise with electric, so you are not too far off that, and remember they are not allowed to make a profit on the meter but they can charge a bit extra to run the meter, collect the money etc so yeah you can ask to see the bill but for the sake of probably not very much money I would just accept you are paying a fair price oh and if on a meter with British gas it would be 13.9p plus 0.26p a day standing charge so even nearer to what you are paying.0

If its electric, its possible to get 11.4/kwhr with 20 p a day standing charge with First Utilitys dual fuel direct debit 2015 fix, Scot Power is 11.8 similar 2015 fix wiht a 32p a day SC0

What the landlord pays for what?
The policy is quite clear, resellers of energy aren't allowed to profit:
The reseller is not entitled to recover the costs of running his or her own electricity or gas system through the charges which are made for gas and electricity.
Where the reseller has estimated the cost of electricity or gas sold to the
customer, he will need to revise his calculations when he subsequently receives
information about the actual cost, e.g. if he receives a reconciliation account from
his own supplier. If, in a particular year, it transpires that any individual customer
has been overcharged by more than £5, the reseller must use reasonable
endeavours to refund the whole amount of that overcharge0 -

It's quite clear I didn't say they were, they can charge a fee for admin, plus the standing charge plus what they pay for the electric at domestic rate, which all would add up to about what the OP is already paying imo.0 -

Standing charge forms party of the energy cost, ie. part of the tariff.
Any "admin" cannot be recovered in the fee one inserts into the coin meter:

electricity. These are separate from the resale costs

If a landlord wants to recover any admin costs, they can (like all their other costs), recover them through the rent. The coins that go in the meter are only to recoup what is on the energy bill.0 -
