Car Insurance - Job Title - Unemployed?

I have recently graduated from university and my car insurance is due to expire tomorrow.
I have got several quotes but to my surprise my premium doubles when I change my job title from 'student' to 'unemployed'.
However, I don't consider myself as unemployed as I'm not on JSA and I'm not actively seeking full time employment as I plan to got travelling in a few months time. Therefore, using the governments definition of the term, I am not actually unemployed, although I am not in employment.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice as to what I should use a job title as I personally do not categorise myself as unemployed and I don't want to have to pay the increased premium.
Thank you.

There's usually something like 'independent means', although it's often rated almost as high as unemployed.0

Being unemployed is a higher weighted "occupation" than most, but unavoidable if that's what you are.
Some insurers offer a "unemployed - independent means" for none dole claiming unemployed, but dunno if it helps the premium reduce.0 -
Go and do some work for a charity shop? It doesnt pay but your doing a good deed and saving money.
Or become a self employed window cleaner with no clients? - thats a joke.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Could I refer to myself as a 'homekeeper', 'housekeeper' or 'homemaker'?0

By normal meaning that would suggest there is someone else keeping you/ funding you.
How are you paying for your months of not working/ not looking for work/ not claiming benefits?
If you are surviving off your own money and not looking for employment I would go with the others and say you are most accurately Independent Means0 -
Well I do some work around the house. Cleaning, washing up, ironing etc.
Although I don't get paid for it surely my activities could be categorised as a homekeeper?
Also, if I decided sometime within the next few months that I did want to get a part time job to earn some money to fund my travels would the insurance company have any problems with my changing my occupation?0 -

Well my dad gives me £100 a month via a standing order to help me out a bit.
I also have my own savings.0 -
As you are basically living from your own means then independent means is the most accurate answer.
If your employment situation changed you'd need to contact your insurers. Some will say they only need to know at renewal so it wouldnt impact you. Others would put it through as a mid term adjustment and rerate the remainder of the policy based on your new employment0
