getting current account

hi everyone

I am facing a dillema, i currently have a basic hsbc account and having read through the advice on this forum applied for the alliance and leicester direct prem account. I was subsequently refused and they are sending a letter to conf this. I am not too suprised at this as my credit record is poor, i have an outstanding debt which i am paying to a debt recov agency. My question is should i appeal the decision by alliance and leicester, cause i am earning relatively good money now and didnt apply for the overdraft or c/c. any help would be gratefully appreciated. thanks
