Laptop to TV

I work in a pub where we have a lot of guest beers. We currently have a small board that we write the beers on, and erase it and rewrite when something changes.

My boss is looking to move forward from this, and utilise a tv in the bar that we currently don't use. He is wanting to use it as a display for the beer choices, probably by connecting a laptop or iPad to it. However, neither of us is technically minded enough to work out how to do it!
We can connect either device as the tv has hdmi and so does the laptop, and we have an hd adaptor for the iPad. The problem we have is what program or app we can use to display the information.

PowerPoint was suggested, but would that work? It needs to be something so that the information can be changed relatively easily.

Thanks
