cd for eight year old girl - or other ideas

Hi all,
my niece has a birthday coming up, and as her dad had banned all things pink, fluffy, or clothes - (she needs an extension to the house apparently for her numerous outfits!) I'm thinking along the lines of music. She has lots of pop party type compilations, but I was thinking of something from a band/singer she might like. I have no idea what music appeals to 8 year olds - any help would be appreciated.
I also thought of a handheld vanity set, but it needs to be high street as I've left it too late to send of for anything.
Cheers
(from a very old feeling auntie)

How about The High School Musical DVD or CD, my daughter and niece have these and they never stop playing them, lots of songs and dances to sing along and dance to. I think she would like it.

Depends a lot on the child, but I believe there is an album from Lazy Town, which should be in the shops. Think it's quite popular in that age group.

No I would aim Lazy Town more at 4 or 5 year olds. Sorry.

A friend at work mentioned that as well, but do you need to see the dvd first?- her mum and dad don't really like her watching tv, so it would have to be the cd - is the music ok without knowing the story?

Fair enough! Personally, I'd think High School Musical is a tad grown-up for an eight year old, but I guess I'm a bit old-fashioned! And of course, it depends on the child.

I would agree High School Musical seems to be loved by all kids.

As an alternative, if she is a music lover, why not get her a cheap MP3 player so she can have music wherever she goes.

    Just a thought
