John Lewis Guarantee

13 months ago I purchased a Bosch washing machine online from John Lewis. Today I have noticed the plastic trim along the top of the washer is cracking and splitting in several places. I have contacted JL and await a reply. If they replace the machine will the two year guarantee start again from the latest delivery date?

If it is just cosmetic plastic trim, is it even covered by the guarantee?0

And even if it is covered I doubt very much if the whole machine will be replaced.0

A replacement only ever continues to have the same warranty as the item its replacing unless there is a special extension written into the warranty (some will give 6 months cover on all replacements/ repairs if its near the end of the original warranty)0

Its the plastic trim but it hardly affects the working of the device.0 -

It doesn't matter if it doesn't affect the operation of the machine.
The SOGA states that appearance, finish and durability are taken into account when assessing the quality of goods.
The problem that the OP may have is being able to prove that the damage wasn't caused by something they did, but hopefully neither JL or Bosch will ask them to do this.0 -
Wealdroam you are right. John Lewis have now told me "the two year guarantee covers parts and labour. The cracking around the top rim is cosmetic and I should contact Bosch directly if I want to arrange a chargeable repair".
DCFC79, it may only be a plastic trim but I paid nearly £500 for what I believed was a good make of washing machine. It looks like a piece cheap tat now.0 -

Their website states "We're covering the product to remain in working order for the life of that guarantee – in other words against manufacturing defect causing breakdown"

Therefore they won't cover cosmetic damage.
You are still covered under the Sale of Goods Act, but unless they will budge with another letter pointing this out, you'll have to get a report stating it's an inherent fault (as opposed to caused by misuse)m and maybe threaten small claims court.
Of course, in this scenario you also risk them giving you a partial refund instead of repairing - which presumably isn't what you want.0
