Hi is this email a hoax as it has a funny attachment, i.e. its a zip file which is the sort of file I never get from companies?
Also I do not have broadband with BT, I am with Sky but then it depends how you read it, i.e. they simply say they are upgrading the line, and as far as I know, even though I am with Sky, BT probably own the line.
The email looks perfect on the surface apart from containing a zip file attachment and is from
Margaret.Short@bt.com
and here is what it says
Important Account Notice : Broadband Upgrade
Hello,
This e-mail has been sent to you by BT to inform we are upgrading your broadband line.
In order to complete the upgrade please complete the attached form.
To ensure future emails from BT are delivered to your inbox and not treated as spam, please add ebilling@bt.com to your address book.
Need more help?
Please don't reply to this email as we won't get your message. If you've got any questions, or for more ways to get in touch, go to www.bt.com/help.
Thanks for choosing BT,

I think it is a dodgy email and the zip file will contain something not nice but I would appreciate someones input on this please.
Any help appreciated.

Sounds dodgy to me. BT would not need your details to upgrade the line, as if you're a BT broadband customer, they'd already have them, and if you aren't - they would upgrade the exchange altogether, not just the people that have sent them a form.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
You have to ask?
Apart from the flipping obvious......
Persons had a sex change from writing the email to sending it.0 -
I think attaching zip files makes it suspicious straight away, ok some of us know what to do with them but they are not exactly user friendly when you think these emails could be sent to people with only the most basic pc knowledge. I think Utility companies etc would stick with very simple formats and not use zip files.0

It WILL be a virus - delete - I have seen lots of these from different companies all had zip attachments and ALL were virus.
Some current ones supposedly from
BT
AA airline
Fedex
Companies House
Sage accounting
TNT Parcels
Gateway.gov
Skype voicemail
Whatsapp voicemail
UPS
Barclays
US Airways
All contain zips - all Viruses0 -
It looks perfect on the surface? Seriously?
I'm a bit worried that you have access to a computer if there's anything about that email that looks genuine to you
Classic spam. In fact - what email client do you use? How did that not get flagged automatically as spam?0 -

How would the zip file on a skype voicemail affect an iPhone 4? Any ideas0
-
It won't be a Skype voicemail, that's the whole point.
Chances are it contains a windows .exe file, so it shouldn't be able to run on an iphone. But there's nothing to be gained by doing anything but delete it.0 -
Thanks for posting this - I am a BT customer and it's good to keep up with the types of scam going on.
Yes, it looks very suspicious to me and I would've deleted it. I've just looked in my Junk folder (Hotmail) and found a similar request from HM Revenue and Customs (not) saying I should click on a link and complete a form. Same sort of thing.
If I ever feel I should respond to something like this, I would always go to the official site independently - not using a link in the EMail. e.g. I regularly get Emails from my Credit Card provider saying that my statement is ready to view. I know this is legit but I still always avoid using any link on the Email and go to the Card site using my own bookmark.0 -
I know it won't be a voicemail I just wondered what the zip file if opened on an iPhone would do?0
