Engine Management light on MOT failure?
Morning all, I took my car for MOT last week failed on brake pads and discs and handbrake not efficient enough. All work done on it yesterday however after my Fiance drained my battery by charging his phone with full ignition turned on whilst doing the work, once we got the car running again it seems the engine management light is now on.
Is this included on the MOT as I don't want to take it back for the re-test tomorrow and find everything else passed but the light has classed it as MOT failure.
Help Please!!

If the light wasn't on previously, it might just be a false positive. Take the car for a short drive, maybe 10-15 minutes. It might go off on it's own accord.
In answer to your question, yes, an EML can cause an MOT failure, however if it wasn't illuminated before your battery drain, I suggest finding a friend with an OBD-2 tool and clearing it. If it comes back, then you know you have a genuine problem and it'll rightly fail the MOT.0 -
Ive text a friend just waiting for them to get back to me!
Thanks for your reply I have tried searching for the answer on the internet but got a little confused!0 -
Last two MOT's the EML has been illuminated and its passed with EML light on being noted.
The fairly rare car in question when fitted with LPG is known for spurious EML lights, no fault as such, light will go out after a few weeks on its own or when i turn it off with the code reader tool, but will come on again an hour or a week later.
You could always ring the MOT garage and ask them if they consider the EML light a statutory failure.0 -
Just rang them and it won't fail they've assured me! I just got confused with the information I was reading on various sites.
Thanks to all that replied0 -
I've always been told an EML can be considered a failure, as a new rule of MOT since 2010 I think, is that all dashboard lights should successfully cycle.0

EML is 100% not an MOT fail.
Only certain lights staying on during the MOT test will be an MOT fail, but EML isn't one of them. All your base are belong to us.0 -
It will go off after 15 start up cycles with no fault reoccurringBe happy...;)0
