Because you neglected to deselect 'install the Ask Toolbar' when you accepted the Adobe upgrade.
Uninstall it via Control Panel. No free lunch, and no free laptop

you'll probably have to reset your search provider in the browser manually too

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Ask not listed in programmes.
Google still showing as homepage in internet options.
Unable to open Firefox.
Windows 7 System.0 -
1. quick scan with malwarebytes, remove all it finds, (probably) reboot machine.
2. Go int Manage add-ons in your browser, delete Ask search from there
3. Internet Options - delete current homepage listing, manually enter google.co.uk, click Apply, then ok. Restart browser.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Firefox is your web browser, Google is your homepage. So you haven't 'lost Firefox'.
You can change your homepage back to whatever you want: go Preference>General tab. Enter the required URL and exit. Sounds like it's reset to the default Mozilla URL.No free lunch, and no free laptop
