Driving - Theory Test

Hello all

I have just booked my driving test for the 3rd July and had a few questions if you could help me out.

1) How many days are required for revision?
2) What resources do I need? I was thinking of getting the CD-Rom but its not compatible with a Mac which is all I have. And do I really need the book if I have a CD?

Would appreciate any help I could get with this...thanx a ton

    Hi,

I took my theory test sometime ago but so to move this thread upwards to get more people to see it who may have taken one recently i'm going to try and help if i can..

Firstly i would revise everyday.... as much as you can

I'm assuming you've got the Highway code and have read through that, memorising breaking distances, road signs etc...

I would have said you needed the book as you can read through yourself and also pass it around and get other people to ask you questions on it.

Its a shame you've only got a mac as i think the CD is vital especially for the hazard perception part of the test which i found you need to practice quite alot. Couldn't you find a friend who had a PC?... I had a go on the hazard perception part when my mate was learning and i never passed it, i just couldn't get the hang of it, he passed the theory first time though so the practice probably paid off for him.. The CD is an excellent way of learning for your theory test, also when you have one get someone who has passed their test to have ago and see how many they get right.

I Wish you all the best for the 3rd July:beer:

I used a book (charity shop bargin 50p and i checked the print year to make sure it was up to date and it was!)

And the cd rom set (3 disc set for 15 quid at halfords as recommended by my instructor) i know nothing about macs - but if you can get the hp to work on your mac i would DEFINITELY try and practice on the as the hazard perception is only tricky till you get the hang of how it works - without practicing i would have failed. My husband "Mr.I have been driving for 15 years and am so good at it" failed when he tried it out!!! It really is the knack of doing it.

I just kept doing the cd rom quiz - and the book (book good as you can take it out and about good for lunch times at work!). I found the combination of both really good.

I did the HP alot as i thought that is what i would be let down on but the practicing paid of and i felt confident when i went in and i passed.

I would practice as much as you can without getting obsessed by it (i did get a little obsessed with the HP).

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR THEORY TEST

You may find this link helpful, as it's the official D.S.A. site and you can do a few Theory Test Exam "free practice runs" OR subscribe (for about £7 per month) for unlimited REAL Theory Test Mock Exams using the ACTUAL Test Question database (My son found it VERY helpful = 1st time pass).

Also, I hope you pass 1st time, but if not, bear this news article in mind for the future ...

I havent taken my theory test yet but am practicing at the moment. I have the highway code (the £1.99 version) and a copy of the theory discs which my instructor gave to me. I use the discs alot more as you can do mock tests and learn the hazard perception which i found quite hard at first (was always clicking too early:mad: ) I do some revision on theory from my book but mostly use the discs then do a mock test and i am passing them all so it is odviously helping. I would say definatly get the discs by all means possible as it helps to have the questions infront of you to answer and also if you get it wrong it gives you the right answer and an explanation why it is the right answer which i find helps me learn.

If you are going for your theory in july i would say at least an hour a day depending on how well you retain information and also how much of the questions you know.

Good luck im sure you will do well let us know how you get on.

I passed in March with full marks in the questions part.

The only thing I can advise is do PLENTY of practise tests of the hazard perception ~ read and understand what it asks of you.

My friend who is much older than me and has been driving for years and years had to take a theory test for a job she is going for.....and FAILED.

My Dad who has been driving forever tried the hazard perception part on the CD rom I got and failed over and over again.

Once you know what they expect from you, the easier it is as the hazard part is the hardest.

    Good Luck!! :)

great...thanx a ton everyone...all this advice is a real help

avfc4life, I read that the book contains all possible questions and explains all the answers so is it the same as the CD? Due to my Mac problem (see above posts), I cant get a CD but since everyone is advocating it so strongly, I beginning to wonder if there is a huge diff btw the CD and the book. Is there?

shellsuit, thanx a ton for that...I am definitely gonna practice the HP - I'v just got a CD from DVLA - am trying hard to comprehend what they require!!

for all those who've done it, how much revision did u do altogether? I'm getting a little panicky wondering if I've left too little time.
