Dodgy Christmas Trees

For the first time this year, I am considering buying a Christmas tree (we have a nearly 3 yr old who is getting "into" it all - we have never bothered previously).

Now come December, every disused shop, car wash, garage forecourt and empty corner has been taken over by pop-up units selling trees. I'm sure its all cash in hand and no idea about whether they have been ethically grown. There doesn't seem to be any legitimate stores you can buy them at.

Anyway getting to the point, if I buy from one of these dodgy dealers, what is the going rate for a tree? I've had a quick peek and there's never any prices on them. Should I expect to barter?

Good garden centres usually sell good trees. they also usually have info leaflets on the types of trees (grown in pots, potted but not for replanting, cut etc) and how to care for them.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Our nearest garden centre is a taxi ride away - I wonder if taxi drivers are happy to transport trees home ??

  • We have had real trees from a local garden centre c5ft for £30, from a country house (fab tree, British grown, not expensive), and this year I saw nice ones at Asda (£15-25 depending onsize), and very nice still growing (eg in pot with roots) c.3-4 foot ones for £6.00 at Lidl. Hope that helps.

    Hi
Garden Centres will often deliver the tree for you.
We've just been and chosen a tree from a garden centre and the prices ranged from £25 - £49.

If you want to support theft, tax evasion etc then go ahead and buy a 'dodgy' tree...

Or, you could just get an artificial one if there're no legitimate suppliers within easy reach with any fresh ones.

We do have a Lidl reasonably close by, will check that out.

No I don't really want to buy from a pop-up place, if I can find somewhere better not too far away.

We have a Christmas tree farm down the road from us. Presumably as it's their main business, they're a legit company. May be worth seeing if you have anything like that locally, and if they'd deliver.

We're in London, so farms aren't an option.
