I don't know. Rabbits are considered a pest so I'm not sure if there is a season.

There is no season for rabbits.

Having said that, if I bought rabbit, I wouldn't want to buy one in the spring in case it was a mummy rabbit.

Well by the time you see the bunny in the butchers it's too late to worry about the kids :D

Rabbits bread for more than half the year in the wild. They start when the days start getting longer around xmas/new year and continue until the nights start to get dark again. Of course it depends a lot on the weather too, a hard winter will delay the start of breading, but a good long summer/autumn will extend it too.

My mate used to bread them in the 70's. In a hutch inside a hut in an allotment, with artificial light, heat, plenty of food and water they will bread all year. Although they tend to eat the young born in the winter months.

Watch out with wild rabbit because it sometimes contains lead shot which can be very difficult to notice until you crunch into it. It's best to ask the seller first.

    game will contain shot.

Super markets will out a warning on the products but also run it through a metal detector so most of it will be removed before being sold.
local butchers will not be able to afford metal detectors.

you can feel it with your finger if rubbed.
just do not chomp down to hard, as it can damage your teeth.

With all the comments about butchers being good quality, I will expect the rabbit to have shot in

They actually breed most of the year from March through to October so people tend not to go ferreting during these months in case there are kittens in the warren. However, as they are independent from birth, losing their mum to a hunter/gamekeeper wouldn't be an issue and there would be other adult rabbits in the warren to keep them warm etc.

For your information rabbits are born blind and hairless and are totally dependent on their mothers for the first few weeks of life .

I suggest you delete this ludicrous post as it makes you look really stupid .
