Just spent over an hour trying to find out why NAS4Free was no longer showing disk temperatures in the web gui.
It was fine last weekend.
Even re-installed embedded system on cf card, and reconfigured. Only takes minutes with backup config file.
Then realised, after problems with disk connections last time out, I'd reset the BIOS with defaults, and neglected to check 'Enable smart monitoring'.
Problem solved.
Also once couldn't get thin client to connect to internet using a lightweight Linux, sorted once I'd plugged in lan cable.
I'm sure others have similar tales to share.

Ok spud two weeks ago I was trying to watch a film on my iPad using 8-player , couldn't get it to connect to my Humax HDR so I thought ok I will be lazy and decided to reboot my router from my iPad , still no joy so I changed the channel on the router and rebooted again to be sure, still no joy.... then I realised that my router was not actually 192.168.1.1 but 192.168.2.1 oops I had rebooted my neighbour's router twice:o

I spent about a day, on and off, recently trying to access the administrative shares on a 'new' PC connected to my Windows 7 workgroup. I could PING the PC, Remote Desktop to it, and access the user-created shares on it - but could not access the administrative shares.
After Googling yet again I discovered the solution (it involved the registry value LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy, if you're interested!), and the fact that I had done a detailed writeup of the matter when I'd added a previous PC, exactly a year ago...

Obscurity is in the eye of the beholder.
Just trying to move away from all the itunes/tablet/printer threads.:)
See my recent washing machine thread.
(Also, I had been lead by the hype to believe that Malus products were intuitive, unlike Windows, so why so many threads?)
Thanks to those that have bothered to reply. :beer:Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I won't mention the times I've wondered why a machine isn't posting properly and opened it up again to check the video card is fitted right - only to then notice I'd forgotten to plug the monitor into it (or indeed forgotten to turn the power on for the machine at the PSU or wall...).
Or the time I fitted a new HDD and then wondered why my machine didn't want to boot, only to find out that the bios had set the new drive as a boot one by default...(going back a few years).0 -

Cheering me up with those.
I have plugged in a powered off monitor from amongst the jumble of cables, which can sprout after a day's 'tinkering'.
The HD thing has happened to me, usually when I have a small Linux on a cf card or usb, and the bios reverts to any spinning hd that happens to be around.Move along, nothing to see.0
