Hello, I was an executor for a will over 12 months ago. I paid all the outstanding bills on the persons flat in December last year. I have today had a letter from EDF energy, threatening legal action over a bill for £122.06 which has not been paid. However, their bill WAS paid in December last year,(different amount, but the amount they said was owed by the tenant I was executor for) and I had a letter from them at the time confirming the account balance is £0.00 and had been closed, I still have this letter. Can anyone tell me if they can do this? Todays letter is the first I have heard from them, since the letter confirming the closure of the account, I have received no other bill, or correspondence from them. I have been told that person who now lives in the flat (a sheltered accommodation, council flat), had a bill from EDF for a huge amount of money, in February last, 6 weeks after moving in. I have also been told the person objected to it and the matter was "resolved". I also know that in the weeks between the 15th Dec 2012, and the 26th January 2013, the flat was empty with the exception of council workers redecorating the flat.
Any help would be appreciated.

Did you give a meter reading when you closed the persons account? If so was the bill you received billed to this reading?Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Hello Joyful, thank you for your reply. Yes, we gave a meter reading when the flat was vacated and the keys given back to the council. EDF worked out the bill using that meter reading. I paid the bill they issued, they then sent a letter confirming the bill account was zero and they had closed the account.0

You need to contact them. It may be that the council are liable for the usage. See if you can check with the council if they took a meter reading when the new tenant moved in. I don't suppose you took a photo of the meter reading? Otherwise they may say it is a 3rd party dispute and leave it to you all to sort out between you.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

We will be writing a letter tomorrow and also sending them a copy of their own letter telling us the account had been settled and closed. we did have a photo of the meter, but as its so long ago, we aren't sure if weve still got it, but we will check, however, even if we do, we cant prove the date the photo was taken on. We will send the letter by recorded next day delivery, so that I can check they receive it. Just to add,in the original post I put on here, I said the new tenant receiving a huge bill that was "resolved"...it would seem that that bill wasn't from EDF, but a new energy supplier who started supplying the electricity when the new tenancy was started. so my comments about it, isn't valid...my apologies for that. The council working in the flat for the weeks it was vacant, is correct.0
