I'd happily answer the phone or a facebook message from a buyer. I'm not sure about a letter, but I'm not the letter writing type.
I think ensuring that it's friendly is important which is why the contents of a letter could be misconstrued.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

You seem to be under the misinformed impression that we're looking to lay some blame here, 'have a go', be confrontational. I'm not sure why you seem to come accross as thinking this when i've said more than once here that that isn't our angle at all.PasturesNew wrote: »Once you've bought it, unless there was a HUGE lie in the documentation .... you're on your own.
Caveat emptor, you had a survey done. No house is perfect and how people perceive the importance of issues varies immensely.
Just forget it, move on - and get the stuff done ... they'll not give a t0ss. You saw it, you did all your research, employed professionals, still chose it. It's over.
But again, i'll have to assume that the people are like many within this thread - unhelpful to others. Don't take that as me saying you're not helping ME because you are - you're telling me your viewpoint which is what i asked. I just think there's a lack of willingness to help others in general.
Quite possible nail & head (unfortunately).yorkshire_terrier_owner wrote: »It's not necessarily that people are unhelpful, it's that we live in such a litigious world these days and we are so frightened of incriminating ourselves and saying something that could be used against us.
Please tell me where i said or implied that the people here replying are unhelpful towards me. I specifically said the exact opposite.OP, the people on here ARE the helpful sort as we give our time and knowledge to help others who come here are start threads.
And as yorkshire said it - it's a shame that that is the mentality of modern day Britain. Everyone looking to screw the next man. Everyone is paranoid. What they are saying is that in this situation they would be very very wary. We'd be afraid of getting drawn into a situation where the buyer wanted to sue us or hold us responsible for problems with the house in some way.
But here's the funny thing .... when you say to others about such a thing, ESPECIALLY on the internet, what do they tell you?
I'll tell you what they say .... DON'T BE PARANOID!! Unbelievable.
How would i even get any money out of them if i wanted to? As has been said - bought as seen. I didn't have to buy the house.
I'm not sure what the difference is between a facebook message & a letter.Doozergirl wrote: »I'd happily answer the phone or a facebook message from a buyer. I'm not sure about a letter, but I'm not the letter writing type.

They're both written words.
Facebook to me is actually a bit worse because you've searched them out, almost stalker-like. With a letter to the address - that's because the EA gave us their address right at the start so you already have it.
Again though, i'll not be contacting them now.0 -

Now I think you're being quite rude about many of us. I never said you accused the posters here of being unhelpful to you but you do appear to be accusing us of being unhelpful to others or in general which is not the case as I pointed out. Although I can't speak for others, I am a very helpful person and even help strangers and I believe the same is likely for the others. However knowledge and experience means that in the situation you have described, bringing up an existing fault with the property, would make people wary as they would be concerned you were about to start problems for them. There are many examples on this site of people wanting to sue their sellers due to things they've discovered about their new home, whether they have cause or not. If you had come on here asking was it alright to contact the recent sellers to ask which company/builder built the built-in wardrobes as they are so good you want the same in the other bedrooms I'm sure most people would have said that was fine and go ahead. So it's not about whether people are helpful, we are just telling you that you could try but many would not respond due to genuine concerns about the implications.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0 -
Look, at the end of the day it's done with - we're not contacting the previous owners so that's that one put to bed.
Thanks for the responses.0 -

For what it's worth, I would definitely contact them. You have nothing to lose.0 -
I've sold and bought a largish number of houses as an amateur developer, and I wouldn't hesitate to answer (most) questions from someone to whom I'd sold a house. Indeed, I've remained in vague social contact (Christmas cards or email) with most anyway. I've never felt legal comeback is just round the corner, rather a reciprocated interest in what's going on at the "old place".0
