Servis Fridge-Freezer M7262/6-S HELP!!

Hello folks, maybe someone could give me some tips on how to deal with this problem.
January 2006 I purchased the fridge freezer from Kays Home Shopping in expectation of moving house later in the Spring.
I kept the F/F in its original delivery packaging in a well-aired dry room in the house. Didn't move house until May THIS year (2007) unpacked the F/F and all was fine until 2 weeks ago (6 weeks after I unwrapped it and plugged it in) when it stopped working.
Contacted Servis who were no use...the 12 month warranty had expired. I got a local electrician to come check it out and he confirmed that the compressor had gone and it would be too expensive to fix (£170 approx)
So, there's a bit of a problem here...the F/F is as good as brand new and I'm sure you'll agree that it shouldn't die on me after 6 weeks.
What can I do? How should I complain? Do you think I'm perfectly entitled to ask for some compensation?
It's a real pain in the bum trying to dispose of this lovely silver cupboard as I live on a small Scottish island, don't drive so can't get it to the Council tip and they won't pick it up...
Any advice on my next steps and how I go about kicking some consumer !!! would be VERY helpful.
