    https://www.companieshouse.gov.uk
See" find information" then select webcheck, select " access webcheck" -put in company name
  • Thanks for the link but it says it's not found. I did type in companies house register and it wanted me to pay for the information

Look at my revised notes above on how to access free webcheck
  • Thanks for that. I tried to search for the company on the companies house page but it does not exist on there. Does this mean he's not a properly registered business?

It may mean he's just a sole trader not a limited company, that's all.

If he's a sole trader he is required to put his own name on invoices.
Some companies run as sole traders because they are disqualified from being directors.

Well the trader possibly broke the law by misinforming you of your rights so you might want to go to trading standards.

How did you pay? Was it by credit card or debit card, or by some other method?

Going to trading standards though won't get your money back, it'll just allow them to monitor complaints against the trader to determine if it's a serial problem and whether to take action.
