Please can someone advise where to buy the cheapest macbook air? Are there any retailers offering discounts, cashback, etc? Thanks for any helpful suggestions.

Check out Apple's own refurbished store first.
The link will take you to 13.3" Macbook Air for £799 with the same one year guarantee that "new" products get.
Otherwise, if you are not fussy about which exact model you want then look at Amazon and/or John Lewis websites.
You are unlikely to find independent sites selling new Apple products at discounted prices, if you do many will be second user or refurbished or older generation models with older processors etc. Ok if that's all you want and will only have light usage.
As a former laptop repair technician including for out of warranty Apple Macbooks, Imacs mainly I can warn you that they do suffer similar hardware failures as regular windows machines but the prices you pay for spare parts are generally much higher.0 -
Cheapest will be if you know any university students who are willing to buy one for you as the educational discount they get will outweigh almost any other new option0

The Apple Store is doing 0% finance for the Christmas rush, which could help out.0

Student discount is the best way to go if you're a student.
I just saved close to £500
as an added bonus, students get a free 2 year extended hardware warranty on top of the standard warranty
Just wish apple provided an insurance cover option!0
