    Presumably you have a direct debit for Council Tax.That would be one direct debit and you'd get cashback for it, which might cover the monthly fee. If not, you could set up a direct debit for a charity (but please make it for more than the charity has to pay to accept it) and open a Tesco saving account for a minimal amount per month.

    You've obviously got another account, so standing order for £500 from it to Santander (and back if necessary) covers the necessary £500 in.

    Gf could open another account, and depending on your circumstances (there are issues to consider) you could also open a joint account.
