I have just called Natwest using a phone number listed on say no to 0870 (01634 890876) using my mobile inclusive minutes, I was wearing my moneysaver hat.

There was a 5 minute wait until a person who sounded like he was in a small office answered.
He immediately asked for my telephone banking number. I feel dumb for handing it over but did question why he isnt asking for certain numbers from it. He then said it was not recognised and that I need to give him my account number and sort code.
Yeah right! I hung up immediately.

I am switching bank and have now transferred all of my money into my other current account for good, thank goodness.

I then called the money making 0845 official phone number and was on hold for 10 mins and gave up.

On top of being locked out of my account the other day this takes the biscuit. I effectively can not speak to someone with racking up a bill or going to a branch in town.

Don't not call the above phone number!!! I will be informing natwest of this issue.

So, you call a random number listed on a website which contains numbers listed by random people, and one of them turns out to not be run by NatWest but by a fraudster, and you're blaming NatWest and leaving them?

NatWest ARE sh*t but you're basically blaming them for something that isn't their fault.

The 01634 number is a Jersey number for Natwest private banking, ie for customers with lots of money who pay for special treatment!
You can get through to the NatWest telephone banking on 023 8022 6443 to avoid the 0845 number, I use it all the time.

To be fair to the OP that number is in the Verified section of saynoto0870, and is listed as an alternative to the 08457 number given by stclair (and a different 0800 number).

Yep, 01634 is Medway in Kent.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

The 01634 number turns up too many hits on various sits to be a simple scammer in a small office, it also appears on business directories and the like for Natwest in Kent.

Still, I wouldn't have called it, just in case. Getting scammed for the sake of paying for a phone call seems a bit daft to me.
  • telephone banking number? The one with 10 digits (DOB+4)??

That's what they'd ask for as standard, they always ask the full number, and if it's not recognised it is the account/sort code.

It would not be recognised it if you were phoning a number in jersey, offshore banking won't have access to onshore accounts.
