Letter from Newlyn Debt Collection

Some months ago we parked in a shopping centre car park. When we got a letter demanding an excess parking charge, going on old advice, I ignored it and subsequent follow-ups.

After a long silence I have had a letter today from Newlyn DC demanding £150+ parking charge. This is, by the way, a free car park, albeit with a 2 hour limit.

Headed "Do not ignore this letter - Court Action Pending" it reads
"Dear Sir/Madam

"we are instructed to recover the above sum, arising from a Parking Charge Notice issued by our clients Excel Parking Services Ltd.

"You are formally advised that unless payment is received within 14 days, proceedings will be initiated in the County Court where a Judgement may be obtained. The County Court Judgement (CCJ) may then be enforced by a court appointed bailiff which will incur substantial costs. It is therefore in your interests to pay immediately."

So, nothing about POPLA, no appeals procedure, just "pay up or we go to court".

At this point I'd appreciate advice as to how I should respond to this letter. I appreciate there are sticky topics in this forum, but this letter seems strangely deficient in detail and I don't know how seriously to take this.

Many thanks, and apologies for the repetetive nature of this topic.

You are to late for popla, and newlyns won't be initiating anything like a claim as the alleged debt is not even theirs! That what was written is not a compliant letter before claim, so either ignore it until you get one, or read Coupon Mad's sticky thread where it links on to what could be done.
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

Just don't go randomly searching for a keyword like 'Newlyn' online like this poster's wife did:

As well as reading the links about DC (debt collectors) in my NEWBIES info sticky thread, please also read the 'Successful complaints about PPCs' one because you say it was a shopping car park. Complaint time then - it is NEVER too late as long as you bend the right ear in the right way as a miffed customer.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
