I paid into wrong Barclaycard account

Good point. I've done exactly the same thing in the past with HSBC - tried to pay my CC bill, and accidentally used the ref for an old card. HSBC told me not to worry. The payment would go through properly, but may take a day or two longer.

As the initiator of this thread I thought it worth updating. My son has called to say that the money has arrived in his account and will reimburse me. From this I learn two things
1. That barclaycard don't reuse old account numbers. He has had 2 credit card changes since he had the number that I paid into and the money still reached him.
2. Asking for help from Barclaycard was pointless, they have not tried to contact the account holder (ie my son) about the "error" despite my request for them to do so.
