I just signed up to this. It's fascinating so far.
Now you are all making me feel I'd like to to it. But I suspect the time required would be more than I can spare. Any advice from the NP? How much time does one need to put into it?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
The claim is 1-1.5 hours/day for 8 weeks.
It sounds interesting but I don't have that much free time in a day.
(Looks back at my public profile and realise I post 4-5 times per day!).

By the way, the pain experiment video can be summarised as follows.
2 groups of people were subjected to mild pain. These were all soldiers, one group of which had fairly mild disablement, whilst the other group had severe disablement. 2 measurements were made, 1st how long each group took to recognise that there was some pain there, and 2nd how long they were prepared to put up with the pain.
The figures are only approximate, from my memory, as follows:
Mild disablement group – 5 seconds to recognise pain, and they put up with it for 20 seconds.
Severe disablement group – 10 seconds to recognise pain, and they put up with it for 60 seconds.
The lecturer concluded that the severe disablement group viewed pain positively, as a means to getting better, and so they were prepared to put up with it longer.
He completely disregarded the longer time for the severely disabled group to recognise the pain. There could be physiological reasons for this, for example the severely disabled group might still be on painkillers, or they might have suffered neurological damage. In addition, the severely disabled group might have been taught techniques for disregarding pain, for example meditation and concentrating on breathing.
So, I thought the lecturer's conclusion was a possible explanation, but by no means the only possible explanation for the experimental results.
I also thought it was strange that he did not include any able-bodied people in the experiment. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

I have the time but not brain power.
Felt spread thin today mind you! Grimmer weather after the weekend here, but DRY. Makes a difference!0 -
I've just checked this dubious quiz and it reckons I really belong in Renaissance Italy.:rotfl:

Or just that if you've suffered a huge trauma (such as results in amputation) perhaps what you can put up with changes?
I can't remember how many people were included in the experiment, but was it enough to make sure that this wasn't a chance result? I'm assuming they did some stats, but...
I though that the result might be interesting, but the conclusion drawn was just speculation.0 -
I have neither the time nor the brain power, LIR, so look on the bright side, you have at least one out of two (-:...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

You’re rough, you’re tough, and more than just sword of awesome — you’re the most badass kid in the castle.
You’re all about having a good time day and knight, but also have a romantic side. Most important, you have a huge independent streak.
Zag, I wonder what your favorite adverb was :A0
