Help - 2 Job Offers...

For the past 2 years I have been an IT contractor and as I was working on long term contracts I was earning good mis lessney.
However in the last 3 months I have become a father and would like a stable income.
I specialise in mainly service desk/1st line/2nd line/deskstop support and my exoeriences are with some big companies.
Recently as I am now looking at perm roles (primary reason so I can develop and peogress into 3rd line) the salary range that seems available for a 1st/2nd which will train me into 3rd line is between 30k-33k.
Here is the dilema - I interviewed with 2 companies this week and both are wanting to sign me up.
The one thats more technical, hands on and seems I will develop quickly is offering a max of 28k and the one that is less hands on and more telephone/customer services based is offering 32k.
I am inclined to go towards the 28k role however should I be allowing myself to drop from the 30k range?
Interviews are normally not my strongest point but i have had aother 2 interviews this week which I am still awaiting feesback for by next week.
Both agencies want me to decide by Monday and one of them has been pushing me to decide the say I got the offer but ive stated Monday will be decision day.
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Agencies will always push as they only get paid if you take their job. Realistically you can string most offers out for at least a week. Obviously you also have the option of accepting and subsequently turning it down before signing the contract but that will be burning bridges.
To get ahead long term you often have to sacrifice monies short term, really only you know your situation well enough to know if you can afford to make that cut.
Have you gone back to the lower offer and said that you are interested in their role and its long term potential but that you've got a bigger offer from someone else?0 -
I haven't as of yet but I indicated they will be offer around the 30k but he didn't say their may be anything he could do on increasing the wage.
Would that be the next thing to do even though the stated max was 28k?
How would I go about things if the company wasn't willing to pay any extra?
Also I initally thought the company had many added benefits which were inc in the package however its an option at a cost from the wage such as dental and medical insurance for both me and my family, child care vouchers, gym membership etc
Would this be negative to look at?London, UK0 -
It depends. Both I and another manager at our place pushed for over the max of the band. I got an extra 2k, she got a 'well if you don't want the job we're not forcing you'. (Same manager recruited us both)0

Did you push through an agency or direct to the employer?London, UK0

I would go with the job you feel most comfortable with - gut instinct all the way for me.0

If I were you, I'd go for the job which you are confident you will know you will progress in. It doesnt matter if the starting salary is less than the other job. If you know you will perform well, then your salary will go up.
Money isn't everything, and if you are unsure about the other job, remember that you will still be on probationary period and if your performance isn't up to scratch then they can let you go.
Given the current economic situation, I would say to accept the job you're most comfortable with, because you will know what you're doing and you'll progress with the company.
My two pence.:EasterBun0 -
If the 28k will progress to the 30k+ range easily then it is the no brainer. You will always succeed faster at a job you want to do and enjoy doing. I'd also check out both employers financial situation and see how they treat their staff. You don't want to start work for an employer that is going down the toilet.0

I second this, soooo never truer
Think you have to ask yourself why is the recruitment agency (whilst they serve a purpose) really so pushy over one, if their wanting to move quick it isn't always a good thing I've come to find, as much as it is annoying to wait to kiss job charming! There is logic here, bad job moves always linger0
