Cancelling Payment into Bank Acc

Hi All,

Is there any way of cancelling a payment that is due to go into your bank account?

My employer has submitted a payment to an old account (just changed banks). I'm in the process of closing the old account but it will still be open when the payment arrives in it mid week next week - the only reason im trying to cancel is ive cut up the card to the account, it doesn't have internet banking so would been a fair trip to drawer the money out and pay into new bank etc.

I've never heard of anyone being able to cancel an incoming BACS but thought I would ask you knowledgable people!

Unless you used the switching process, then no, it'll get bounced back to your employer.

I would expect a 5-7 working day turnaround if you're lucky.
  • Leave it open, ring the bank when it arrives, move it your new account. Bingo.

It wont get bounced back to the employer, OP says the old bank account will still be open.

Just ring the bank and transfer it to the new one.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Obviously the bounce back part is wrong, but the key question is whether the account closure is part of the account switching process. So, is it? If it is, then the balance in the account should get transferred as part of the process, if not then I'd expect the bank to pay you the balance either by cheque, or if you're lucky by either FPS or BACS DC.
