N power debt problems
Options
Hi I hope someon can help me
I am in debt with Npower for my gas and electricity I have a pre payment meter which is set to take 4.50 a week of for my debt and 35p per day for standing charge. I am finding it difficult to fund the meters and since 1st of Dec when the increase took affect its getting worse.
I have phones Npower who said they cant take any less for the debt I owe and there is nothing they can do for me.
Basically I get carers allownace and Income support (which amounts to 48.00 per fortnight as I have social fund loans being taken out).
I dont know where to turn I put £10 in yesterday it left me with £3 because of debt and emergencey credit payback.
I cant switch because I owe over £500. I am worrying now about when the real cold weather starts.
Hope someone can advise me.
I applied for the warm front grant but they wont get it until the end of March I really dont know what to do

Why do you only receive £24 per week? Carer's allowance and income support comes to much more than that. And are social funds not paid back serially? There should not be more than £8 being taken off for loans. £32 is far too low. There must be something you are not revealing. What about the income of the person for whom you are caring?
As to paying back arrears - £4.50 is about the minimum payment (I though it was less than £4 but perhaps it has gone up. But 6op a week is not going to make a difference.)
It may be possible to apply for a grant to have your £500 arrears written off - but if your income is £32 per week then, again, that is not going to make a real difference.
Your problem is not your debt or standing charge - your problem is with your income - you have to sort out what is happening with that.0 -
No my Income support comes to £48.00 PER FORTNIGHT not including my Carers allowance,
They ARE TAKING £12.00 PER WEEK for a social fund loan as well as £3.80 for rent arrears and also arrears for council tax.
The person I am caring for does not live me so their income cannot be taken into consideration0 -
Why are you not including your carer's allowance? You can make a request to have your social fund loan repayment to be reduced.
Why is the person you are caring for not reciprocating? Surely they have an independent income not marked by your carer's allowance - why is your carer's allowance being spent on them rather than on you?
You also have to start paying your bills rather than waiting for them to build up and be taken off at source.0 -
(The name of npower's charity trust is npower Energy Fund/Charis Grants.)0

eh?? I included My carers allowance if you notice the brackets in which I stated the amount I get in my first post were next to income support. We know that CA is £60.00 per week. I am not trying to claim I am living on less than I have after all the energy companies dont care whether I have money taken of my IS for social fund.
And TBH I have no idea what you are trying to say in the rest of the post? where on earth did I state that my CA was being spent on the person I am caring for.
And yes its a great old world when we can all pay our bills on time and not have to worry about debts. UNFORTUNATELY we dont all live in that world. Peoples circumstances are all different it aint one cap fits all society.0 -
Again, I don't see the issue - £45 income support (£21 taken off for debts) plus £60 carer's allowance. That's an income of £105 per week - more than £71 per week.
You only receive £84 in the hand each week (or £168 per fortnight) as you are already spending £21 on arrears. Why can't you also afford to repay your debt to npower at £4.50 per week? That still leaves you more than a single person's JSA for your ongoing usage.0 -
Oh thanks for the link, I applied and was refused.............and they dont have to give you an explanation why you were refused its just no thank BYE0

Without going into the inns and outs of my life I am supporting my daughter who is at UNI, (who lives with me) she is also sharing the caring responsibilities of my eldest daughter who has cerebal palsy, we work as a team a bit like a tag team we look after her in shifts..........even though she is in supported living, there have been that many cutbacks she might as well be living independently, not everything is so black and white0
