Changing Energy Suppliers if you have solar pv

We have had solar PV panels for 4 years now and have stuck with Eon (although using the best tariff for us) because we thought it might be complicated to change suppliers as we have an export meter. Previously we changed regularly to get the best prices. I have read that you can leave your exported supply to be paid by your original supplier and just change the company you get your energy from. Does this work okay or can you change the whole lot? Which is best to do?

    Hi Barbarella2

Just to confirm, you can move your import electricity away from us without affecting your Feed in Tariff.

    Hope this helps.

  • Many thanks for your reply Malc. Just to clarify - do we have to let the FIT Team know if we change our import supplier or will they pick it up automatically and will our dealings with them carry on exactly as before?

It's irrelevant who your supplier is. Your FITs are calculated on the basis of 50% of your generation meter readings (which I assume is what you have, rather than an export meter).
There's no advantage in moving: all the Big Six have to offer FIT's processing whether you are supplied by them or not. It is only optional for the smaller suppliers.

    Hi Barbarella

Just to clarify, no need to let our FIT team know you're changing supplier.

Your FIT dealings will carry on as before regardless of whether or not we supply your imported electricity.

    Hope this helps.

  • Does the response from EON apply to all suppliers? I'm with EDF.
    Thanks.
  • Ralph -I have been advised that this is the case with all providers, so i would say yes, unless anyone knows different
