Help-keep getting a threat detected warning

I have Avast which has been running a couple of years. Just the last few minutes I have had frequent "threat has been detected" messages for a blocked Win32:Fareit-LM [Trj]. As the antivirus keeps flagging it as a new threat I fear it is quite serious.

Can someone please advise on what I should do as it seems persistent.

Same problem here, also with Avast. Just started 20 min ago, gotten at least 5 warnings. It lists something about GoogleUpdate.exe being responsible? Will keep looking at this thread for any explanation anyone might have.

Did Avast definitions update today? It might be a false-positive, which is nothing new.

Avast is always updating. In fact, i am sure it slows my pc down as I cant open chrome or windows live mail for a few mins after booting up and this is a new pc this year.

I would run a web based AV scanner to double check
Or use Avast forums if they have such .

It seems to have stopped since I re-booted my computer after a couple of hours. So far nothing has flagged up today either. Perhaps like was said above, it was in need of updating.
