I have a website and have produced a guide which I would like to sell on the site. How do I copyright the document and what would it cost?

In a nutshell, under the Berne Convention, everything you write is copyright to you automatically the moment you put it down in a fixed form, eg. on paper or in a computer document. You don't have to do anything. More information from IPO, the Intellectual Property Office.0

As above, the difficult part though, and expensive, is enforcing your rights to your intellectual property. Not only does that need a good patent and trade mark attorneys involvement up front, but it needs ongoing cash or insurance to protect. Will someone else copy, do you want to go to the expense of attempting to protect it or can you be in first and be the original that others seek out?0
