Help needed with a cheap Christmas hamper

Personally I would add a few to the adults hamper as well; we were all children once and some may not have had much first time.
Yes, just a little festive stuff, but definitely go to Aldi or Lidl and buy loads of cans and packets for the adult ones. It'll be very welcome as they'll be able to eat really well for days. Crisps/Pringles type snacks would go down well too.0 -
Home bargains do bags of choc coins for 59p if you have one near you.0

If you start off with a fruit box and wrap it with Christmas paper you've got a pretty container, then go for shredded paper as others have said.

Good luck!First date 10.2.2002

I've moved far away from Home Bargains!!!!!! Nearest thing here is Poundland. Love the ideas so far. Thank you so much.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

It's a shame that we can't offer practical help. I know that it is frowned upon on here, but I would happily buy a few basic items and post them to a church or other recognised organisation (as opposed to an individual poster). This post has got me thinking and I will definitely check with my local church and Salvation Army to see if they need things - shame I didn't think of it sooner.
Awh, thanks for the thought.
The reality is that churches and other organisations all over the country are working with families. I'm certain there would be a church or organisation near to you which would benefit from your generous offer. It would save on postage costs too

If this is a Christmas hamper then I assume it should contain Christmas 'Treats'?
Base it around a nice Christmas pudding,
Aldis puddings are lovely and start at £1.99 I think.
I would then add a pack of chocolate biscuits (I don't buy many biscuits but I do know that Aldi, Lidl and the major supermarkets have really nice ones in the value ranges). a box of dates and a pack of shelled nuts.
A tin of Cooked ham, a tin of Salmon, maybe some Tinned chicken in white sauce or tin of chilli? some tinned fruit and evap or condensed milk. and maybe some sweets with what change is left?0 -
I was doing a Tesco shop so priced some things up for you.
The sort of things we always buy in for Christmas -
1.12 - Bottle of Schloer
0.98 - Tesco Value Christmas pudding
0.89 - Tesco all butter shortbread
1.50 - Tesco Beetroot and pickles from 2 for £1.50 offer
0.90 - Mr Kipling mince pies from BOGOF £1.80
0.75 - Tesco Value Cashews
0.79 - Tesco oatcakes
1.25 - Matchmaker from BOGOF @£2.50
Then off to Lidls for the weekend offer -
1.09 - Doritos Big Bag
0.39 - Doritos dip
Grand total off - £9.66 :T0 -
All the above ideas are good. Are you supposed to be spending the same on the family hamper as those for the single people and couples? If so, it might be worth asking if you could spend £1 less on the others so you'd have an extra £5 for the family.
It might be worth calling into one or two shops or offices nearby and explaining what you are doing. Many people are willing to help with specific requests and even small donations would help.. . .I did not speak out
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me..

Thank you! Love the Schloer idea. Off shopping now. A creative friend is going to pack them up for me. Will let you know how I get on.
Now annoyed this request came a day after the Daily Mail £5 off voucher! Could have got more stuff!!!!Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Definatly get yourself on the phone, or better still, take a walk around the shops with a letter of proof of what you are doing with the Church letterhead on and ask them to donate goods towards the hampers, it will be a rare manager who says no to your face. Good luck
