New Build Tips

We might be moving into a brand new house. We'll be renting it. The buyers bought it off-plan for a retirement home and plan to move in in a couple or three years.
I'm just looking for tips and advice on things I might need to know specifically about new builds. For example, getting a phone line or internet connected.
There is also some ongoing building happening across the road so I'd appreciate tips or advice about this, such as any rules they must adhere to.
Thanks in advance!

Grateful to finally be debt free!

You will definitely need to sort out phone and Internet yourself and it may take time as it's a new connection.
If you are absolutely sure the rental is happening I would call BT (or whoever) asap to start the ball rolling.
I assume there is a communal aerial for TV.
All other things like gas, electric can be sorted once you move in.
Building work will only be allowed between certain times - normally 8am to 5pm but it will be stipulated in the planning permission.0 -
New builds do not have things like toilet roll holders, curtain rails etc. so check with landlord who will be responsible for buying and installing things like this. Plus how will the builders leave the garden? Plain rotovated mud is the norm.0

You need to agree what to expect with the landlord for things like phone installation, other utilities, garden etc. If it falls to you, don't just call BT - check out other providers (e.g. Primus) to see if they will do a free line installation.
Who will provide access for snagging issues?0 -
My son is in the process of moving into a new build.
Aerial sockets, BT sockets, Virgin media face-plates etc. have all been installed during to build process.
He's in contract with Sky for BB, phone and TV, so last week he transferred the contract to the new address. The Sky dish was installed a couple of days later, and the following day he got a text from BT to say the phone line was now active and there was no need for them to visit the property. Everything's working
. . . great when a plan comes together.
eta: front and back gardens are laid with turf, he just needs a lawn mower . .0 -
Make sure you save a monthly guesstimate for council tax if you don't get a bill straight away. It will save getting a shock down the line. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.
