I don't run one, don't think it really needs one

  • I do not run one either but probably should, I will be checking this thread to see if any good suggestions pop up.
  • I've never run any kind of AV program on any of my IOS devices nor my mac for that matter.

I think if you are just sensible and dont just go clicking on things willy nilly then you'll be fine. Save your money and spend it on some music!

good question, I was thinking I should put on on my ipad so following this thread (I was hoping for a free one :o)
  • You honestly don't need one, due to the architecture of iOS. The 'walled garden' means that apps don't have access to much of the rest of the operating system.
  • Honestly there is no need.

Most virus's these days are written for windows based systems so therefore cannot affect any IOS devices. Have a Google by all means but you won't find hardly any posts where someone with an ipod/pad/phone has been infected

  • And those few where it looks like they have turn out they havent. Generally its a situation where the user doesnt understand something that is happening thus assumes their device has a nasty on it!

  • As others have said you won't need one for iOS due to the way Apple runs the App Store (the apps get vetted before being allowed on the App Store). However, you might need one if you decide to jailbreak the tablet.

Ok this is going to be a really stupid question but I have no idea how a virus works. I appreciate you can't get them from the apps, but what about web browsing (I do that on my ipad). I am assuming that the system wont let you download anything from the net (apart from apple apps) so this keeps it safe?

Correct. The IOS system is setup more tightly than a ducks rear end so you'd probably have to be the unluckiest person in the universe to get any kind of infection on it!
