They ask and they will add it I just wouldn't recommend it, it's not your obligation to provide their details
  • As someone who is currently staring at 5 different lots of council tax for 5 different properties I can assure you that you are charged council tax from the moment you complete.

Most sellers give the council the details of the new owner though I'd make sure you're giving them the correct details. Or you can just say you don't know as I have done in the past.

Normally you would pay council tax from the day you move in, not the day you complete

You pay from when you take ownership (completion) unless you've let the ex-owners stay for awhile. Somebody has to pay the council tax and if the ex-owners say that they've left and you've bought it, you'll get a bill pronto.

I had a rental property where the tenants mover out on the Monday and I had the CT bill by Wednesday. There used to be an exemption of up to 6 months for empty unfurnished properties. But the Tories removed this a few years back and it is now at the individual discretion of the individual council and I think most want their money.

I emailed my local council tax department when I moved here. Told them dates I moved in etc. They sent a bill through and how to pay. This year I emailed them to get my payments set to weekly as per my pay. I pay online.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Don't want to turn this into a thread about tv licencing, but people need to be careful about giving out others personal details to private companies. Whilst utility companies have an interest in a property in the form of the meters, tv licencing don't.

Yep, and TVL aren't the BBC, they are Capita, a private firm, much the same as SKY.
