  • I have had the same offer from Tesco. As I see it, if you use either card elsewhere you get 1 point for every £2 spent so no change. If you spend at a tesco store or tesco direct you get 3 points for every £2 spent so again no change (i.e. 1 point on the credit card and 2 points for your clubcard account which forms part of your credit card). But importantly, if you spend £2 at Tesco.com on the new card (e.g. weekly supermarket shopping online) you only get 3 points (i.e. 1 point on the credit card and 2 points on the clubcard account) - this means you are worse off because the existing credit card offers 4 points in total for tesco.com (i.e. 2 points on the credit card and 2 points on the clubcard). If you go to www.mastercard.com, you can find lots of offers on the new card which seem to be largely for transatlantic travellers and posh hotels - not for me so I intend to ring up Tesco and decline the new card. Hope this helps

Thanks to Yorkshireshrek for his research, I suspected that the Clubcard points awarded would reduce with this change and so he has proved. I will be calling Tesco to decline the offer for this reason and also because I have the card registered on PayPal, with Card Protection Plan and for a number of regular automatic payments, so I don't want the hassle of calling all these companies to give them a new card number.

I'm confused here. The Tesco Clubcard site is showing (for the standard card)
5 points for every £4 you spend at Tesco or Tesco.com and 1 point for every £4 you spend everywhere else!
Note the "standard" card shown at the link has the Mastercard logo, my current card is Visa.

My Platinum card flier claims 6 points per £4 at Tesco or Tesco.com and 2 points per £4 spent away from Tesco. As I use the card for all CC dealings that's quite an improvement.

The real question is, are there any snags moving from Visa to Mastercard? I endeavour to pay the full balance off in plenty of time, so APR is not of interest.
