How to Say Thank You?

In the summer we bought DS1 a car to use when he is home from university.
TBH the look on his face when he saw it and his thanks were more than enough reward. I wouldn't have expected him to do anything more, in fact I'd have thought it very odd.
He did prove to be a useful additional taxi for DS2 though
.
DS2 has now passed as well.

What about taking them out somewhere for the day in your car, show it off to them?
If it were me I wouldn't want my child to make a gesture that cost them a lot of money but I'd love it if they took me out for a memorable day. I don't know where you are but I love bracing walks by the sea in winter and a hot chocolate in a cafe / glass of wine in an old pub at the end of it would be a perfect day for me. If you don't live near the sea how about a National Trust property?
I think this sounds lovely!
And even though it's not even 9am and I'm not a big drinker, I now have a hankering for a glass of mulled wine by a roaring fire!

When my DD1 passed her test she was only too willing too go and do the supermarket shop for us. All I had to do was provide the list (and the money!:rotfl:).
Seriously, it was great to have someone share the chores like that.0 -
how about a nice drive take them to lunch somewhere
arrange before hand to have some of their friends meet you there or family take a camera get lots of photos of you all
Get copies of the photos do a remember this wonderful day book

wright them both a letter tell them how grateful you are for all they have done and do for you
have photo done of the 3 of you or if you have any brothers or sisters? have a family photo have a lovely frame for the picture
But really it could just be a lovely kiss and hug a nice cuppa teat hey would have you sitting there with them

How about a nice shrub for the garden that they can keep.0

Oh....
Just having heard a young driver go by by house....
Another way to thank your parents? Keep radio volume reasonable so that your neighbours just smile and grin and youth, not want to wring your necks and kick your parents,

we helped our kids with driving lessons and their first cars - the looks on their faces when they got the cars was thanks enough! good thing cos that's all we got! lol0

We bought each of our dd's their first car and we wanted nor expected nothing more than a hug and a 'thank you' for it. We do get the occasional lift from them (only one at home now to accept a lift from) and that's all we need. It's great being able to visit the pub and have more than the drink drive limit and to be able to text when we're ready to go home :j
Well done OP for passing your test, it's a great achievement and I think the suggestions for taking your parents out for the day, a nice lunch or dinner are great ones.0 -
We have bought all 3 of our DD's their first car and never expected anything in return, but all 3 cooked us a lovely meal for 2 and added a nice nottle of wine...amazingly they even managed to clean up after themselves after. We appreciated these lovely meals more than any fancy gesture they could of done.0

You can thank them by not crashing it in your first couple of years of driving unlike so many who do...It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0
