No, No - that can't be correct - we are the ones who are on the wrong side of the road - we must be - as the rest of Europe use the 'right' side.
:rotfl:
Right doesn't work by consensus - that'd be like saying that good and evil are subjective
eta: anyway, the clue's in the cars - ours are RIGHT hand drive0 -

And therein lies the problem.
Schools stopped teaching in Imperial units back in 1970.
I know that for a fact (as far as Scotland was concerned) as I started teaching in 1970 and never ever used miles, gallons, or pounds in any mathematical or technical calculations.0 -
Assuming 50 MPG
50 miles = 1 gallon
1 gallon = 4.54609 litres
Price per litre = 1.319
1.319 x 4.54609 = 5.99629271
50 miles / 5.99629271 = 0.1199258542 pence per mile
or
50 (mpg) / 4.54609 = 10.998462414954389376365184147256 miles per litre @ 1.319
Adjust accrordingly.0 -

or even express it as 5.6l/100km
How many Brits are confident of really understanding whether that is good or bad?0 -

mpg is useful because we only really use this metric to compare fuel efficiency between cars, we don't really need to know how much a gallon is. What we just need to know is that a landrover is x mpg and a volvo estate is y mpg therefore volvo is better becasue it has higher mpg and more efficient.
It's not like we have to visualise how many coke bottles are required to hold a gallon and also visualise how long 30 miles are if we were to stand on top of a small mountain looking over the horizon in order to understand the concept.0 -

although 4.5 is much easier to remember, which is the figure I use0 -

No, they didn't. Look back up the thread a bit.or even express it as 5.6l/100km

<waves> But I do acknowledge that, having used LHD/km speedo cars for many years in the UK, that I'm not exactly average in this respect.0
