Hi there,
I'm completing on my first house a week today. I found out that the currentowner gets his gas and elec from British Gas on a "standard" tariff.
However, I recently checked how much I could save on a fixed tariff on MSEand it was over £200.
How long will it take to set up an account with another company? Is thissomething I should be looking into now or can it be done when I have the keys? Can I cancel the contract with British Gas the moment I move in?
Just trying to cover all bases and not be forced to go with a more expensivecompany even if its just for a few weeks.
Many thanks all
Sam

once you have the keys you can set up you preferred supplier but you will also have to for a short period 6-8 weeks have an account with British gas. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

You are in a deemed contract with BG from day one, you can't commence a switch until you first register with them.
Typical switch takes 4-5 weeks. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
How much you would save really depends on how much you would use in the house... What are you basing your usage on?0
